ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR

Connie is a FAME endorsed First Steps in Music teacher, teacher trainer, mentor, and advocate. Motivated by her deep love for God, children and music, Connie has taught preschool music classes for over thirty years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. Connie runs her own music business, Greenwood Music Services, LLC, and presently teaches preschool through kindergarten music classes in several area schools as well as First Steps in Music parent/child classes. 

Connie completed her Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and worked with Dr. John Feierabend in the early development of the First Steps in Music Curriculum. She taught K-2 and elementary choir in the West Hartford, Connecticut Public Schools. Connie graduated from the University of Hartford with a master’s in music education, Kodaly emphasis degree. She completed her Kodaly Levels, Conversational Solfege Levels, and her First Steps in Music Certification. Connie is a founding member of the FAME organization and has served as Secretary of the Board of Directors. She is honored to be featured in the DVD, First Steps in Music for Infants and Toddlers in Action (GIA, 2018), she is a contributing writer to the book Feierabend Fundamentals (GIA, 2018) and wrote the First Steps in Music Parent Handbook (GIA, 2018). Connie also partnered with Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project and supported young families by organizing a team of musicians (including herself) who composed and recorded 13 original and personal lullabies.

  • First Steps in Music is a children’s music curriculum that trains children to be tuneful, beatful, and artful. Farmington Avenue Music Academy is excited to partner with First Steps in Music instructor, Connie Greenwood, to offer stimulating and exciting music classes for young children ages 0-5.

    The parent is responsible for participating in class activities and must stay in the classroom for the duration of each class.

  • First Steps in Music classes at FAMA are offered Saturday mornings.

    • 0-2 Years Old Class: 8:45-9:25 AM

    • 3-5 Years Old Class: 9:30-10:15 AM

    Spring Session Dates (Registration Closed)

    • March 9, 16, 30

    • April 6, 20, 27

    • May 4

    • Makeup Date: May 11

  • Rates

    • Session Cost: $126

    • Registration and Materials Fee: $15 (this non-refundable fee is charged at registration and is NOT included in the $126 session fee).

    Billing

    • Unless otherwise arranged with FAMA, sessions are billed in their entirety ($126).

    • Upon registration, an invoice will be sent within ten business days for the full session cost. This invoice must be paid in full at least three days prior to the first session. If payment is not received by then, registration may be forfeited.

    Sibling Discount

    • Families who have two or more students enrolled in a First Steps in Music class will receive a 15% discount per student, beginning at the second student.

  • Any classes that are missed by our teacher or that are cancelled by the academy (i.e., weather) will be made up on the makeup day at the end of each session (see schedule above). If more than one class is cancelled by the teacher and/or academy, those classes will be refunded.

    Any classes that a student misses will not be made up.

  • Farmington Avenue Music Academy is located at and is a ministry of Farmington Avenue Baptist Church.

    All classes take place at the church building: 155 Mountain Road, West Hartford, CT. There is a parking lot off Mountain Road and an entrance to the building directly off the parking lot.
